An unexpected flat tire can be downright scary, and at the very least, inconvenient. However, knowing how to safely replace your flat tire can help make the situation less severe. We have a few tips from our trained Kia service professionals at Hollywood Kia so you can quickly and easily replace a flat on the road.

Assess the Area

Try to safely steer your vehicle to the shoulder or even off road, if possible. Check for traffic and carefully exit your vehicle when clear. If you feel the area is unsafe or it’s too late or dark, stay in your locked Kia vehicle and call for help.

Gather Your Supplies

It’s best to have everything you need within arm’s reach before attempting to change your tire. You’ll need a jack, a lug wrench, and your spare tire. Try to have a designated spot to keep your lug nuts as you remove them so nothing gets misplaced in the transfer.

Change Your Tire

Make sure your vehicle is on even ground before attempting to change your tire. Then, follow these step-by-step instructions as you remove your flat from your car:

  1. Start by loosening the lug nuts, but don’t remove them completely.
  2. Jack up your car so that your tire is completely off the ground.
  3. Remove each of the lug nuts and remove the flat tire.
  4. Carefully secure  your spare tire and secure it with your lug nuts. Tighten them until the wheel begins to turn.
  5. Lower the jack to bring your car safely back to the ground. Tighten all the lug nuts completely.

Replace Your Tire

Keep in mind that driving should remain restricted on a spare tire. It’s essential to replace it with a quality tire as soon as possible. Our Kia dealership in Hollywood, FL has just the tires you need, and we can even replace them for you, too. Reach out to us today if you need a new tire – we’re happy to help!
