Does Your Kia Need New Headlights?

Whenever night falls or heavy fog gathers, your headlights become an all-important safety feature. If you ever find your headlights faltering, have them checked or replaced at your local Kia dealer without delay. Here are a few warning signs that your car needs new headlights

Discolored Light

If the light ahead of your car becomes discolored, hazy, or cloudy in any way, your headlight lenses might be dirty or damaged. Dirt, sand, mud, or snow from the road can usually be cleaned away quite easily to restore full brightness.

However, headlight lenses can sometimes become permanently damaged by a buildup of tiny scratches from road debris. The acrylic plastic that lenses are usually made from can also start to oxidize when exposed to excessive UV rays in strong sunlight. Lenses damaged in either of these ways will eventually need to be replaced.

Fading Light

Most headlight bulbs dim to some degree before they fail altogether. If the intensity of your headlight beams is fading, have the weakened bulbs replaced at once. It’s unwise to drive with anything less than maximum headlight brightness.

Erratic Light

Sometimes failing bulbs can cause the light to flicker. Flickering or erratic light might also result from a fault with the electrical supply, the bulb harness, or the wiring behind the harness. An experienced technician can quickly diagnose and fix the cause of flickering light.

One Bulb Dies

When a single headlight bulb gives up the ghost, the other in its pair is likely to follow soon. For this reason, it’s usually best to replace both bulbs at once when one of them dies.

Bulbs Keep Dying

If you keep installing new headlight bulbs, and they keep failing more rapidly than their expected lifespan, you probably have an underlying fault with the electrical system. Your bulbs might also be incorrectly installed or the wrong type of bulb for your vehicle.

Fuse Keeps Blowing

Likewise, when a headlight fuse repeatedly blows, you probably have a problem with the bulb, the harness, the wiring, or the electrical supply. You can ask a technician to figure it out and repair it.

Kia Dealer Finds a Fault

When you take your car in for routine inspections and servicing at your local dealership, make sure the electrical system and headlights are thoroughly checked. A seasoned technician will quickly identify potential headlight faults and let you know about them. This way, you’ll catch problems early on and you’re less likely to suddenly find yourself without full visibility while driving at night.
